Is electronic anti-mouse/ultrasound
against rodents effective?

Appelez-nous

Electronic mouse repellents operate on the principle of using high-frequency sounds to keep mice away from food sources and nesting areas inside homes.

Sonic or ultrasonic devices have been presented as repellents for everything from cockroaches to insects to rodents, especially rats and mice.

Sound wavers

Man hears certain sounds emitted and perceived by rats and mice; however, the auditory range of rodents is greater than that of humans.
This range that comes out of human hearing is called ” ultrasonic“.

Rats and mice emit high-pitched sounds that they use to communicate using these sounds.

There are several brands of these electrical devices that emit either a sonic wave or an ultrasonic wave, which these parasites would consider “irritating”.

Some are sold specifically to repel rodents. However, there is little evidence that these devices actually repel insects or are effective in rodentcontrol.

Devices that use sounds perceptible to humans usually have no effect on rodents.

Hantavirus, definition and mode of transmission

Hantavirus is a severe lung syndrome caused by a virus. It is secreted in the urine, feces and saliva of infected animals. Most often these are rodents. When humans come into direct or indirect contact with these secretions, the virus is transmitted to them. Ditto when they are bitten by infected rodents.

However, the virus is not transmitted from human to human, only from animal to human. This type of disease is called zoonoses because they can only be transmitted to humans through an animal. It has been found that domestic animals (apart from the domestic rat) and livestock cannot contract hantavirus so there is every reason to believe that only rodents can carry it.

Symptoms of hantavirus

Being a lung disease, one of the characteristic symptoms of hantavirus is difficulty breathing. At the beginning of the disease, the infected person begins to feel fever, chills, headache and muscle pain.

It is about two weeks after the appearance of the first symptoms that they are usually accompanied by a feeling of shortness of breath. Nevertheless, this last manifestation of the disease can be observed after two days as after six weeks; it depends on the organism of the individual.

Hantavirus can also lead to kidney disease or infection. And although they are rare and very few people are prone to them, there is currently no treatment to combat these ailments. It is therefore better to be careful not to contract them.

The example of birds

Sonic devices are also used to deter birds, but it is only effective as a temporary rescue. In fact, in areas with large bird populations, birds have been observed perching on these sound units.

These noises are supposed to be alarming for mice and a deterrent to attendance in affected areas.

It must also be considered that ultrasound does not pass through walls or furniture, so their range is quite limited.

The data on these “traps” therefore show little or no effectiveness.

If mice are present in a house, it is best to communicate with a mouse exterminator/pest control, as they can become a real nightmare by their ability and contaminant.
